This Brookfield client reached out to us to bring their second floor up to today’s standards and the needs of their family. The first floor was full of rich 1920’s craftsman trim, but the upstairs was cramped, awkward, cold, hot, and lacking inspiration.
Working within the constraints of the existing roof lines, stair, and bathroom, LivCo proposed relocating the mechanical equipment, and a shift to the hallway allowed a fourth bedroom with a simple triangular dormer addition. With the home situated on a corner running parallel to a busy street, special attention was given to the proportions, composition, and locations of the dormer and its windows. Our design team aligned this with the existing ganged dining room windows below.
The result is a charming, fun, functional, and energy-efficient 2nd floor for the kids that seems as if it was always meant to be there.
